Dr. Gemma Lopez is a psychiatrist who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families to provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, second opinions, psychotherapy, medication management and treatment recommendations. Dr. Lopez is committed to listening to her patients about their concerns. She collaborates with her patients, their families, and/or their providers to develop a treatment plan that is efficacious and tailored for each individual. She makes every effort to provide as many treatment options from which to choose. Dr. Lopez believes in the judicious use of psychotropic medication, when appropriate. She takes special interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy, play/behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Dr. Lopez uniquely designs her approach to fit her patient’s style of thinking and relating so that she may help her patients reach their goals.

Dr. Lopez graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Francisco then completed her medical degree at Creighton University School of Medicine. She finished her general adult psychiatry residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco followed by a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Prior to joining Baywell Psychiatry, Dr. Lopez practiced as an outpatient attending psychiatrist and clinical instructor at the UCSF Medical Center in the Young Adult and Family Center’s Bridge Clinic.  While at UCSF, Dr. Lopez supervised medical students, residents, and fellows; she also led a cognitive behavioral therapy skills group for adolescents. Dr. Lopez is board certified in both general/adult psychiatry as well as child and adolescent psychiatry.
