Dr. Mariel Herbert is a general adult psychiatrist. Her practice includes psychotherapy and medication management. Dr. Herbert uses evidence-based treatments to collaborate with each person on a treatment plan that is individualized and effective, and she recognizes the importance of therapeutic alliance within the doctor-patient relationship. She enjoys working with her patients in developing a deeper understanding about the self and in living a meaningful life. Dr. Herbert received her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences and Psychology with honors from the University of Delaware. She completed her medical school education at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, and her residency in psychiatry at The University of Maryland and Sheppard Pratt Health System. During her residency training, Dr. Herbert was selected to participate in the Adult Psychoanalytic Fellowship Program at the Baltimore Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. In addition to integrated psychodynamic therapy training, she has experience with both short- and long-term cognitive therapy models. She has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings, emergency psychiatry, and community-based psychiatry. Her professional interests include mood and anxiety disorders, personality development, and periods of change and stress in life.
